Teaching the Year 3/4 Technologies Curriculum
Created by Rebel Bright
Welcome. This website has been created as a resource to assist Primary school teachers when teaching content from the Australian Curriculum: Technologies, in the Year 3/4 Digital Technologies strand.
This resource has been designed to provide teachers with ideas to teach content from the Digital Technologies strand, and provides teaching suggestions for lessons, as well as a summative assessment task and rubric, which align with the Australian Curriculum: Technologies. Click on the button below to go straight to the Technologies Curriculum.

You will notice tabs at the top of the page which will link to the lesson ideas for this unit of work, as well as the summative assessment task and rubric.
Student Learning Outcomes
By the end of this learning unit, students should be able to:
- Transfer data using peripheral devices.
- Present data in correct chronological order using digital technologies.
- Present data using simple software.
Key Ideas
Project Management
Students will develop skills to manage projects to successful completion through planning, organising and monitoring timelines, activities and the use of resources.
Design Thinking
Students visualise creative design ideas, plan, analyse and evaluate components to find which best meet the desired criteria to complete a digital photo story timeline.
Information and Communication Technology
Students develop explicit knowledge, understanding and skills relating to operating and managing ICT and applying social and ethical protocols while investigating, creating and communicating.

General Capabilities
Literacy
Students develop literacy as they learn how to communicate ideas and concepts; as well as read and interpret written instructions, including procedures.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Capability
Students develop an understanding of the characteristics of data, digital systems, audiences, procedures and computational thinking. They apply this when they communicate and create digital solutions.
Critical and Creative Thinking
Students develop capability in critical and creative thinking as they imagine, generate, develop and critically evaluate ideas. They develop reasoning and the capacity for abstraction through challenging problems, and engage in design thinking processes.
Personal and Social Capability
Students develop personal and social capability as they engage in project management and development. They direct their own learning, and become independent learners who can apply design thinking, technologies understanding and skills when making decisions. Students share new ideas and develop resilience.

Differentiation
Writing activities could be adapted for differentiation, by allowing students to complete them using digital technologies, and software such as Microsoft Word or Publisher software.
Graphic organisers could be provided for any students who may require them, to allow for thorough explanation of the expectations and timing of tasks.
Students with physical impairments or learning disabilities/difficulties, could be given the allowance of a peer or aide to complete the writing and/or typing of the timeline task, while the student with the impairment gave instructions.
